Yin Yang in a world upside downSolo Show | Casal Son Tugores | Alaró, Mallorca | Spain | 2021
Toni Salom has escaped from the barroque style to which he has acustomed us, growing once again, without ever having been, in a tribal art. Why? Because does being an artist need movement and transition. Change. Little by little going from one´s self to another self. The material concretion of metaphysics discomfort of a moment.
This collection signals two concrete and complex themes – the instrinsic acceleration of modern life and the existencial distress consequential of absolute relativism. Two struts of the common problem which translates in general dislocation. Nothing is totally good or bad - however , we can´t lose time finding out. Given this circumstance, we go through life without thinking, accepting the present as something rotten but necessary. Is this the only possible scene? Maybe yes, maybe no. In any case, when we fail in the search for definitions, when we try to percieve reality but unfortunately we are only capable of sensing it, art appears as an answer.
For this reason, between approximate speculations on one´s identity, register our miseries as a previous steep to redefine us. A movement which transcends artistic purpose, is a pretext for a more radical action: reaffirming a human being as a polyhedral figure, but as a figure is in need of delimitation , and stable points. Mutable but solid agreements which position us in the world.
So, deconstructing the caotic reality which surrounds us try to find order in what keeps us firm. The speed of present times combines ephimeral and the modern disordered world which we haven´t as yet understood but of which we form a part. Inevitably Be it to claim it or distance ourselves from it. In any case, Toni Salom with this collection has initiated a game of balance to start the journey. The Tragic nihilism allows us to search for alternatives. Aiming at a distance but falling close, (re)discovering himself.
